Ophthalmogen at the Panhellenic Ophthalmology Congress (OMMA)
Modern ophthalmology is evolving rapidly, responding to the increasing visual demands of contemporary life. It is becoming increasingly evident that the health and functionality of the eye cannot be approached in isolation, but rather as the result of a complex and interconnected biological balance.
- The Panhellenic Ophthalmology Congress of OMMAheld from December 18 to 20 at the fully packed Megaron Athens Concert Hall, under the auspices of the Hellenic College of Ophthalmology, provided a high-profile scientific setting in which contemporary trends and emerging perspectives in Ophthalmology were brought to the forefront.
Within this environment Δερμοφθαλμολογία® (Dermophthalmology®) appeared for the first time in the field of Ophthalmology, marking the introduction of a new, unifying scientific approach into the official ophthalmic dialogue. This presence effectively represented the premiere of a new way of thinking about the eye and its care. Dermophthalmology focuses on the Ophthalmo-Skin Unit — a functional continuum that includes the eyelids, eyelashes, eyebrows, periocular surface, and the tear film. The condition of this unit has a direct and decisive impact not only on visual quality and ocular comfort, but also on the appearance of the eyes and, ultimately, on overall quality of life.
Dermoophthalmology focuses on Ophthalmoderm (Ophthalmo-Skin Unit) — a functional unit that includes the eyelids, eyelashes, eyebrows, periocular surface and tear film. The condition of this single system has a direct and decisive impact not only on the quality of vision and visual comfort, but also on the appearance of the eyes and, overall, on the quality of life.
The health of the eyelids and eyelashes directly affects the stability of the tear film. The health of the eyelids and eyelashes directly affects tear film stability, ocular comfort, and proper ocular surface function. Disorders at this level are associated with conditions such as vitreous humor blepharitis, dry eyes, irritation, visual fatigue, as well as with aesthetic alterations of the gaze. In modern everyday life, which is characterized by prolonged use of screens and increased environmental stressors, the daily care of the eye skin acquires a primary and decisive role.
The central message presented at the conference through its specially designed banner Ophthalmogen products captured in a simple but essential way this fundamental scientific principle:
"What is above determines what is below."
(What’s above defines what’s below.)
This message summarizes the Eye-Skin Axis (Eye–Skin Axis), highlighting that the condition of the eye skin determines the function and health of the ocular surface.
Her presence Ophthalmogen products The conference was accompanied by substantial exchanges of views with institutional and scientific representatives of the medical community. Of particular importance was the presence and interest of George Patoulis, President of the Athens Medical Association and President of the Global Hippocratic Institute of Physicians (GDHI), which highlighted the importance of Dermo-Ophthalmology as a modern, interdisciplinary approach in the field of health.
At the same time, the scientific support and hospitality of Ioannis Datseris, Ophthalmologist Surgeon, Managing Director of ΟΜΜΑ and PhD from the University of Crete, was decisive for the integration of this new perspective into the institutional framework of the conference.
The Ophthalmological Institute of Athens (OMMA), with a history of over 35 years, has over time played a pioneering role in providing high-level ophthalmological services and shaping the scientific dialogue in Greece.
Dermo-Ophthalmology, Conceived in Greece, is a modern scientific proposal with an international perspective. Ophthalmogen is the first line designed entirely on the principles of Dermo-Ophthalmology, recognizing in practice the decisive role of eye skin in modern eye care.
This first appearance of Dermophthalmology at the Panhellenic Ophthalmological Congress of the OMMA marks the beginning of a new chapter — a way of thinking that does not separate the eye from its environment, but treats it as a single, living system, at the center of vision, health and quality of life.
